Nancy uses a wide variety of glasses including dichroic and iridized glass. A process of vaporizing metal and other substances in a vacuum chamber creates dichroic glass. The result is a glass that transmits and reflects different colors as it moves in different lights. Iridization of glass occurs when the red hot glass is sprayed with metal fumes when the glass is rolled into sheets. For each of Nancy’s pieces, she hand cuts many individual pieces of glass, layers them, fuses in a kiln at 1500 degrees, anneals and cools. Many pieces undergo multiple firings to achieve different results. All non-flat pieces are re-fired to slump into a handmade clay mold.
